We will implement our Strategic Intent in three-year strategic cycles, the first being the period 2024-2027. We discuss the strategic change objectives, approach, and indicative activities below.
Socio-Economic Justice
Since 1999, the Socio-Economic Justice Pillar has always been at the forefront of our work. Through this pillar, we have managed to engage with the region’s political economy within the wider scope of corporate-led globalization, neo-colonialism, and extractivism.
Extractivism and Environmental
We are experiencing a new wave of expansion in mining exploration and exploitation in our region. This is inextricably linked to the global energy transition and climate change. As a region, we have an endowment of minerals critical to the energy transition.
Extractivism & Climate Justice
Through our Leadership Institute on Climate and Environmental engagement, we will develop a critical mass of climate and environmental justice activists to promote people-centred solutions to climate change.
Civic Space and Democratization
We have articulated the rolling back of civic space, erosion of human rights standards, and weak democratic practices in our region. We understand that the laws, policies, and decisions of our States are directly linked to the quality of citizens’ lives.
